Reading with Daddy

Jaxson prefers not to go shirtless alone- he asked Scott to take his shirt off too! The shirt had to come off because this mess happened at dinner.

Working...

Jaxson & I have had some funny conversations about working lately.

He was telling me about working and Daddy being at work. I told him that I had already been at work today. He said "no, mommy's don't work they go home, only daddy's work". Interesting comment coming from a kiddo with two working parents.

We were in our bathroom and he notices this spot on the floor and asks me what happened to the floor. I said "oh that must have happened during construction". He said " No I did it with my hammer, I'm a working man".

Hodge Podge

This weekend was sort of a hodge podge of events, we really didn't have that much planned but like most weekends we managed to fill our days full of stuff and end Sunday night with a few things left un-done. In my free moments I filled my free time on a few crafts that I'm pretty pleased with.

I saw a shirt like this in a boutique for almost three times what I made it for.

This is a copy cat of the "taggie blanket" that is out on the market. I think it turned out super cute!! Jaxson is still a little stuck on the blankets he's always slept with but has managed to add this to the stack of blankets he piles on himself each night.

This is a placemat I made for Jaxson to help him learn where things go on the table and especially to help him learn where his cup belongs...not on the edge of the table waiting to fall off! We've had one meal with it and it was a huge success. I could have easily spent 5 minutes printing something off the computer and accomplished the same thing- but this was my plan and I was determined to finish it even if I spent way more time, sweat and yes...blood on it. Don't ask!

This weekend we also visited Rock 'n River Aquatic Center in Round Rock. It was the perfect pot for 100 degree temps in Texas! Jaxson was a little nervous at first with the splashing kids and water shooting everywhere. By the time we left he was a fish! There was a little shore that gradually got deeper and it was perfect for Jaxson to walk into the water by himself and have complete independence and control. He was floating on his belly, putting his head under the water and splashing all over the place. He of course did not want to leave....what two year old would!

Amazing...

Every night as we go through our bed time routine we finish off our time before bed by saying prayer as a family. We start off by saying,
“Okay Jaxson what do you want to thank God for?”
Sometimes it’s his new shoes, his stuffed dog “Fluffy George”, for his friends, family, or little things he’ll remember from throughout the day. And sometimes he’ll stump us with something amazing that we don’t expect from a little 2 year old. The other night it was to “keep Nikki safe” or “for listening ears with my teacher Ms. Elise”
Tonight he said “I want to thank God for Joshua #1”. Not really knowing what he was talking about we asked him where he had learned about Joshua #1.
Was it at school? “No.”
Was it at church? ”Yes” he said “we sing about Joshua #1 at church.”
So we get out the bible and look at Joshua #1 and this amazing verse that my sweet little boy pointed out said to “Be strong and courageous.” As I was reading it out loud he repeated back to me “Yes Joshua #1, Be strong and courageous.”
There are many moments as a parent where you stop and look at your child in amazement, tonight was one of those moments. One moment I do not want to forget.

A Bicycle Modified for Two...

Jaxson got a bicycle seat and helmet for Christmas- but the seat never fit the style of bike that Scott has. We stored the seat and moved the seat...the seat finally made it back to the store and Nana and Bunca came back with a perfect bike seat for Jaxson. He was so excited to see that seat, more excited to sit in the seat and on cloud nine to ride in his seat with daddy right behind!

I borrowed Nikki's bike and we all went out for a ride tonight. I won't go into details of how big of a wimp I am... but I was out there working on it! Jaxson waved to every car that passed by, it was so cute. At one point Jaxson said to us "I don't want to go home".

I think we'll be making lots of trips around the neighborhood to see this sweet smiling face!

New Song

Jaxson's version of a well known nursery rhyme:

Row, row, row your boat
Down the prickly street

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.

I'm not so sure that any boats row down the prickly street....but Jaxson seems to think so- and don't think about telling him otherwise because his boat does not row in a stream, it's a STREET!

Tommy Richter Scholarship Fundraiser

Yesterday we headed out to the big town of Industry, TX (pop. 303) for the Tommy Richter Scholarship Fundraiser in memory of Scott's uncle Tommy who passed away last year. There was a silent and live auction, kids auction and kids games and lots and lots of food. Every sweet lady with a gift in the kitchen cooked up the best dessert they could and brought it to the event. They were expecting around 750 people and I don't know what the final head count was but this thing was huge! The feature also was the antique cars and tractors, there were more than my camera lens could fit in one picture.

Jaxson was a little uncertain about the horses at first but by the end of the night he was asking for more rides- even without mom and dad by his side.

This week was a pretty big heat streak in Texas so there were a lot of sweaty bodies in the crowd. But that didn't send the crowd home, they stuck it out well into the evening I'm sure! It's amazing to see how little towns like that come together. I'd have to say it was a big success and I'm glad we were there to support the memory of Tommy Richter.

My friend

This conversation happened tonight:

Jaxson "Mommy, where's my friend daddy?"

Me "He's in our bedroom buddy" "Am I your friend Jaxson?"

Jaxson "No"

Me "Well why not?"

Jaxson "Because you're a girl, its only for boys"

Slumber Party

We had Carter over last night for a slumber party while his parents went to celebrate their anniversary. We really enjoyed having Carter over, he's such a easy baby. He's just started walking this past week so that was interesting to see how he would do- our concrete floors gave him just the perfect surface to cruise all over the place.
The boys had breakfast together this morning

They read the newspaper to see what was going on in the world

We cruised around the street in the wagon

Looked for bugs and smashed a few

Read several books

And enjoyed our little slumber party with our buddy Carter.
